Elias Theodorou earns decision win over Sam Alvey at UFC Fight Night

Elias Theodorou used constant movement and striking volume to win a decision over longtime rival Sam Alvey in their UFC Fight Pass prelim bout Saturday in Ottawa. Scores were 30-27 (twice) and 29-28, all in favor of Theodorou, after three rounds of fighting.
In the first round, Theodorou kept his distance away from the powerful Alvey, using lateral foot movement and stance changes to avoid getting walked-down or pinned against the cage. He also threw a lot of snapping kicks, to the legs, body and head.
None did major damage, but Theordorou's output dwarfed Alvey's, who seemed to be mostly looking to counter. In the second round, Alvey managed to close the distance and get inside on Theodorou.
From there, the smilin' warrior controlled most of the round in the clinch, as well as landing a big uppercut punch to the head. Theodorou managed to eventually work out of the clinch after avoiding major damage or takedowns and landed a flying switch kick to the head.
The third and final round went a lot like the first, with Theodorou managing distance well and landing lots of quick kicks. After years of trash talk, the two men hugged after the final horn.
The loss is Alvey's second-straight and dips his record to 26-8-1. Theodorou got back on track after his gutsy losing effort in December and improves his record to 13-1.
