Daniel Cormier still wanted to fight Jon Jones despite positive drug test
UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was heartbroken when he heard the news that Jon Jones had been flagged for a potential doping violation ahead of their fight at UFC 200.
Because Jones returned a positive drug test, he was immediately pulled from the fight with Cormier, and the UFC promoted Brock Lesnar versus Mark Hunt to the new main event.
Cormier fought back the tears when speaking to the media after news about Jones being pulled from the event was released. But in the latest episode of "UFC Embedded", the moment he found out for the first time was caught on camera.
When White broke the news, Cormier was clearly upset but in the emotion of the moment, he even offered to face Jones regardless of the result from the drug test.
"I trained so hard," Cormier lamented after hearing the news. "Like is there anything I can do? I'll sign a release and we can just fight."
Obviously, the UFC wouldn't actually allow Cormier to fight Jones after he was flagged for a potential doping violation, but it was clear that he still wanted the chance no matter the repercussions.
Cormier is still expected to fight at UFC 200 against a new opponent, but there's no word on the chance that he'll be rebooked for a rematch against Jones any time soon.
First things first, Jones has filed an appeal with USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) and asked for the "B" sample from his collection to be tested. Jones will be afforded a full appeals process before any potential punishment will be handed down as a result of the positive drug test.
