Dana White reveals what will happen with Conor McGregor's featherweight title

Published Apr. 20, 2016 3:10 p.m. ET

UFC president Dana White doesn't buy that Conor McGregor is actually going to retire, but if the featherweight champion is serious about walking away, his title will be vacated very soon.

According to White, who spoke to "The Herd" with Colin Cowherd on Wednesday, McGregor will need to make his mind up whether or not he was serious about retiring because a featherweight title fight is happening at UFC 200.

Currently, former champion Jose Aldo is scheduled to meet Frankie Edgar in an interim title fight on the July 9 card.

The plan was supposed to have McGregor fight Nate Diaz at UFC 200 and then move back down to featherweight to unify the title with the winner of Aldo versus Edgar.

But if McGregor is truly retired, that fight's dynamics change immediately.

"That's the thing: Conor needs to clear up this whole retirement thing and clear it up fast because if he's retired, then at UFC 200 Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar are fighting for the vacant title then," White declared.

McGregor's claimed retirement puts the featherweight title back into the mix, which will result in a new champion being crowned at UFC 200.

No decision has been made at this time but it appears the UFC is willing to pull the trigger and take the title away from McGregor if he really stays retired.

Though White promises that he holds no ill will towards McGregor and never got angry after pulling him from UFC 200 this week.

"I'm not mad even a little bit," White said. "It's UFC 200, it's a massive fight, I have 600 people on the roster that all want to fight on this card. Believe me, when Conor went out, 10 other people called asking to go in. Plenty of people want to fight on this card, it's a massive event. It's still a big fight. No, I'm not mad at all."
