Cubs minor leaguer leaves Rousey a ticket for every game

Anthony Giansanti, an outfielder for the Iowa Cubs (the triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs), is making one grand effort to attract the attention of Ronda Rousey. So much so, in fact, that the longtime minor league baseball player has resorted to leaving the MMA superstar tickets to games at will call, even tweeting at Rousey to alert her of the time of the games.
But what started out as something of a goof might one day yield dividends, as Giansanti, 26, is now garnering national attention for his unique efforts at convincing the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion to attend one of his games.
“I had no expectations going into this,” Giansanti said, per a Des MoinesRegister report. “It honestly just started off as a funny joke that’s morphed itself into something funny and entertaining.”
Giansanti, currently on the disabled list and batting only .176 in five games at Iowa, frequently tweets at Rousey with his invitations, even once asking for help in convincing Rousey to serve as his date to a teammate’s wedding this fall.
As he often does, Giansanti provided evidence of his persistence on Monday by tweeting a photograph that documented Rousey’s name of the Players Pass List sheet.
This isn’t even the first time that Giansanti, who is single, attempted to use free tickets to a minor league game to foster favor with a big-time star for whom he fancied. Before his promotion to the Cubs, he previously left tickets for pop star Taylor Swift during his stint with the Cubs’ double-A squad in Tennessee. But he decided to go a different direction at triple-A, opting to court Rousey.
“She’s an incredible fighter,” he said. “I’m a big UFC fan and she’s also incredibly good looking. I mean, why not?”
While it may remain a long shot at best, Kenny Houser, the Iowa Cubs’ director of ticket operations, was asked what would happen should Rousey respond to Giansanti’s offer and take in a ballgame.
“Someone of her notoriety, we’d probably try to find a skybox or something,” Houser said.
Good call.
