Conor McGregor set to star in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
Add video game character to the list of accomplishments Conor McGregor has racked up in 2016
American video game publisher Activision has revealed reigning UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will be featured in their upcoming release Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. McGregor will be teaming up with one of the most financially successful franchises in video game history.
Activision’s most recent release , Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, earned a jaw-dropping $550 million in just three days, making it the biggest entertainment premiere of the year across, including all theatrical opening weekends. This game marked sixth consecutive Call of Duty game to surpass the $1 billion mark. Call of Duty Black Ops 2 also shattered record with after making $500 million in 24 hours.
To put the numbers in perspective, that’s more than Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million) and Jurassic World ($208 million) earned in their opening weekends.
This just adds to the recording setting numbers on the Irishman’s belt.
Following his majority decision win over Nate Diaz at UFC 202 last month, it was revealed the entire card had earned $7,629,010 at the gate, making it the fifth-largest in company history
As far as pay-per-view buys, the early estimates ranged from 1.2 million to 1.5 million buys, which would place it in the top three in promotion history, along with UFC 196, which was headlined by the first showdown between McGregor and Diaz, and UFC 100 in 2009, which was headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir.
McGregor also headlined UFC 194, which reached 1.2 million buys. During the card fans saw McGregor dethrone former champion Jose Aldo in just 13-seconds.
As far as what’s next for the man known as ‘Notorious,’ he already has a multitude of fighters calling for a fight against the UFC’s biggest star.
While the general consensus amongst fans and pundits would be the trilogy fight against Diaz, UFC President Dana White has revealed on multiple occasions McGregor will be forced to drop back down to featherweight and defend his 145-pound title against Aldo.
