Chris Wade mauls Mehdi Baghdad, wraps up first-round submission

Published Jan. 17, 2016 8:46 p.m. ET

Chris Wade wasted no time making short work of former "Ultimate Fighter" veteran Mehdi Baghdad with a rear-naked choke to move to 4-0 in the UFC.

Wade lost his original opponent Mairbek Taisumov just recently but didn't hesitate to accept the challenge from Baghdad, who stepped up on late notice to take the fight.

Baghdad trains with former UFC champion Anderson Silva and is well known as a deadly striker, so Wade wasted no time taking him out of his game and planting him on the ground with takedown within seconds of the first round starting.

Wade stayed strong on top and used a methodical attack to slip past Baghdad's defense until he finally got his opponent's back and that was the beginning of the end.

Wade flattened Baghdad out on the mat and wrenched up his arm to lock in the rear-naked choke as he patiently secured the hold while the UFC newcomer could only squirm in anticipation of the finish.

With nowhere to go and Wade locked onto his neck, Baghdad tapped the arm signaling the end of the fight at 4:30 into the first round.

Wade didn't blink when his opponent changed just a week out from the fight and he put on a dominating performance to get his fourth victory in the UFC as he continues to emerge as a prospect on the rise in the lightweight division.
