Wimbledon's Hutchins proud of Delhi silver
Wimbledon's Ross Hutchins described winning silver for England at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday as unforgettable.
Hutchins partnered Ken Skupski in the men's doubles in Delhi losing 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to Australians Paul Hanley and Peter Luczak in the gold medal decider.
The 25-year-old then teamed-up with Croydon's Anna Smith 24 hours later for the bronze medal match in the mixed doubles, but lost 6-4 3-6 2-6 to Skupski and Sarah Borwell.
Hutchins, who had helped dispatch home favourites US Open finalist Rohan Bopanna and rising star Somdev Devvarman in the semi-finals, was disappointed with the defeat.
But reckons being on the podium more than made up for it.
"Incredible moment, like no other. Will never forget the feeling of being up there for my nation," he said on Twitter.
"Very disappointed not to bring back gold for England, but so proud to have played for my country in these historic Games."
World number 57 Kupski, who echoed his partner's thoughts, may have described playing with Hutchins as great experience, but it didn't stop him claiming bronze in the mixed doubles.
"I'm very proud of winning the silver spoke to my family back home and they're extremely proud as well. It's a dream come true to play here and represent my country," he added.
"These guys are among the best players in the world and we managed to match them. It came down to a couple of points but that's doubles and we'll work on it."
"Playing with Ross has been fantastic. We've had a great time."
