Rome hospital: Ken Rosewall feeling well

Published May. 16, 2011 10:16 a.m. ET

A Rome hospital says tennis great Ken Rosewall is feeling well and talking to staff after falling ill at the Italian Open.

Officials in the San Camillo Hospital health director's office are declining to say exactly why the 76-year-old Australian was hospitalized. They said Monday that the eight-time Grand Slam champion had asked that no details about his condition be given to media. Australian media have indicated he was being treated for a possible stroke.

Rosewall's wife Wilma was quoted by Australia's Sydney Morning Herald as saying her husband had suffered no heart or brain damage, but was being kept under observation.

Rosewall won 132 singles titles in his career, including four Australian Opens, two French Opens and two U.S. Opens.
