Rival pranks Murray via naughty text

If this tale by Andy Murray is any indication, one of his primary tennis rivals is quite the prankster — and a lot funnier than many of us might have imagined.

In a recent interview, the reigning Wimbledon champ recounted the situation.

Murray was out having dinner with his girlfriend, and he committed one of the most common social misdemeanors of our time: He checked his phone.

"Which I probably shouldn't have done because it's rude to check my phone," he acknowledged.

It got worse when he saw a text message from a number he didn't recognize, one that read like so: "Oh my God, Andy, you look so sexy tonight. It’s a shame you’re here with your girlfriend."

"Oh no," he thought. This had the potential to get really weird. Someone he didn't know was hitting on him via text message from inside the restaurant.

Murray didn't tell his girlfriend because why would you do that? But he tucked the phone into his back pocket, and the wheels in his brain started turning — until he figured it out.

It was Rafael Nadal.

"He’d obviously been (there) the whole time watching me from a distance looking at this message and seeing my face and also not telling me," Murray said.

Turns out Rafa's got a wicked sense of humor — even if Murray's girlfriend may not have fully appreciated his joke.
