Qualifier Ram loses in St. Petersburg

American qualifier Rajeev Ram lost to eighth-seeded Victor Hanescu of Romania 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-3 at the St. Petersburg Open.

Russian wildcard Dmitry Tursunov defeated fourth-seeded Yen-hsun Lu of Taiwan 6-1, 6-4 to reach his first quarterfinals of the year.

Alexandr Dolgopolov topped Rainer Schuettler 6-4, 6-2 to make it into his second quarterfinals in two weeks. Dolgopolov had 11 aces and never faced a break.

Eighth-seeded Victor Hanescu of Romania also advanced on Thursday, beating American qualifier Rajeev Ram 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-3.
