Hantuchova ousted at Generali Ladies
Patty Schnyder beat second-seeded Daniela Hantuchova 6-4, 6-4 Friday to reach her third semifinal of the season at the Generali Ladies.
Schnyder, who also reached the semis in Budapest and Prague in July, plays Germany's Andrea Petkovic for a place in Sunday's final.
The Swiss took advantage of a below-par performance by the 30th-ranked Hantuchova, who had 25 errors from the baseline.
The match was a repeat of the 2007 final, when the Slovak took the title in straight sets.
Earlier Friday, Petkovic beat Greek qualifier Eleni Daniilidou 6-3, 6-2 for her fourth semifinal of the season.
The sixth-seeded Petkovic raced into a 5-1 lead but needed eight set points to finally close out the opener. She converted her second match point while serving at 5-2.
Roberta Vinci also advanced after rallying to beat fellow Italian Sara Errani 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
The 46th-ranked Vinci, who came back from a break down in the decider, plays No. 7 Ana Ivanovic or Julia Goerges in her second semifinal of the year after Barcelona in April.
