Two-time NCAA singles champion Nicole Gibbs has earned one of eight wild cards into the U.S. Open.
Others went to 2010 Wimbledon and U.S. Open doubles champion Vania King and to USTA girls 18-and-under champion Sachia Vickery.
After winning her second straight NCAA title at Stanford, Gibbs turned pro this summer. She won the title at a USTA Pro Circuit $50,000 tournament and is ranked 172.
The tournament begins Aug. 26, with Serena Williams looking to defend her title.

Among those receiving wild cards into qualifying were 17-year-old Taylor Townsend, who last year became the first American girl in 30 years to hold the year-end No. 1 ranking in juniors.
