Kim Clijsters won her first match since capturing the U.S. Open title, defeating Meghann Shaughnessy 6-2, 6-2 Tuesday to reach the second round of the Luxembourg Open.
Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, who lost to Clijsters in the final in New York last month, will face Anne Kremer of Luxembourg later Tuesday.
Kremer was a late replacement for American teenager Melanie Oudin, who withdrew hours before her first match because of illness.
Clijsters is a five-time champion of the tournament.
