Cilic, Mayer advance at BMW Open

Third-seeded Marin Cilic of Croatia edged Simone Bolelli of Italy 7-5, 7-6 (4) to advance to the second round of the BMW Open on Tuesday.
Cilic was the runner-up last year and pounded 11 aces to none for Bolelli to win the close match.
Fifth-seeded Florian Mayer of Germany eased past qualifier Steve Darcis of Belgium 6-1, 6-2.
Also through were Teymuraz Gabashvili of Russia, Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic, and Philipp Petzschner of Germany.
