NICE, France (AP) Third-seeded Kevin Anderson won for only the third time this year in reaching the Nice Open quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Anderson, who received a wild card at the clay-court tournament, hit seven aces and broke Diego Schwartzman of Argentina twice to win 7-6 (4), 6-3.

The 20th-ranked South African has been struggling with various injuries, and underwent ankle surgery in March. He will take on fifth-seeded Joao Sousa or Victor Estrella Burgos in the next round.
