Young maintains contract stance
Ashley Young's future remains uncertain after the reported Manchester United target refused to offer guarantees about staying at Aston Villa.
The England international will be out of contract in 16 months and he has put extension discussions with manager Gerard Houllier on hold until the summer.
Young was linked with a move to United or Liverpool in January and both clubs are expected to renew interest amid the player's apparent doubts about Villa's ambition and capabilities.
The 25-year-old's current club will therefore be unhappy to hear that he once again declined the chance to offer assurances after scoring twice in Saturday's 4-1 win over Blackburn.
Young said in The Sun: "I have always said I will leave talks until the end of the season and that's how it is."
But the former Watford man, who skippered Villa against Blackburn, despite the second-half introduction of club captain Stiliyan Petrov, will continue to give his all.
He said: "Every time I pull on the shirt I go out to give 110 per cent for Villa.
"I am delighted to be playing in the position I am in, just behind the main striker, and doing well for the team."
