World Cup fuels Cuellar ambition
Cuellar watched and celebrated his country's Sunday night triumph over Holland in a Birmingham bar. He admits it will be tough to break into a team which conceded only two goals in seven matches in South Africa but is determined to try. Cuellar, a first-team regular for Villa last season, said: "I have had contact with the Spanish Football Federation during the past year. "It was always going to be tough to break into the squad because they won Euro 2008. "But I want to play for Spain and I was so proud of the lads the other night and they have been terrific throughout the World Cup. "It was a fantastic achievement and it will be even harder to break into the squad now. "But I will give it everything, try my best and have the same intensity and determination to try and achieve it." Cuellar was caught up in the celebrations after a late goal from Andres Iniesta settled the settle in Johannesburg. He said: "I watched it in Birmingham with a host of Spanish people. They went crazy and were jumping into the canal after the game. "The atmosphere was really good, like being in Madrid - although I wasn't tempted to jump in as well!"
