Wolfsburg release midfielder

March 22, 2013

Wolfsburg have released their Brazilian midfielder Josue from his contract with immediate effect, enabling him to complete a move to Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro.

Josue, who was captain of the Wolves when they won the Bundesliga in 2009, is set to sign a two-year contract with the Brazilian club when he returns to his homeland this weekend.

"Josue is one of the most successful players Wolfsburg have ever had and this transfer is an interesting opportunity for him," said Wolfsburg's director of sport Klaus Allofs.

"We would therefore like to make it possible for him because of the excellent service he has given to Wolfsburg.

"We will remain in contact with Josue and we wish him all the best for the future."

The 33-year-old arrived in Wolfsburg in 2007 from Club Sao Paolo FC and played a total of 164 matches, leading the club to their first league title in his second season.

"I am leaving with mixed feelings," said the Brazilian. "On the one hand, I am pleased with this solution, but on the other hand, I am also sad to leave Wolfsburg.

"But this transfer is a big challenge for me which I would like to take. I had a wonderful time with Wolfsburg with highs and lows.

"I made the breakthrough here and Wolfsburg will always have a place in my heart. I wish the club all the best and I am convinced that this team will achieve a lot."
