Wolfsburg and Germany defender Arne Friedrich will be out indefinitely with a back problem that requires an operation.
Friedrich is slated to undergo surgery on Thursday in Munich for the slipped disc that could not be treated without the operation.
It will not be known until after the operation how long Friedrich will be out of action. Friedrich joined the 2009 Bundesliga champions this year from relegated Hertha Berlin.
