Liverpool says Tom Werner will replace Martin Broughton as the club's chairman from next Wednesday.

Werner is also the chairman of Boston Red Sox owners New England Sports Ventures, who bought Liverpool for 300 million pounds (then $480 million) last month.

Broughton, who brokered the deal with NESV despite fierce opposition from the club's previous American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr., will stand down from his interim position on Tuesday in a move that had been widely expected.

Werner pledged Thursday ''to work tirelessly for our supporters and deliver the best conditions for a winning team and silverware in the trophy room.''

NESV principal John Henry says it has been ''a pleasure'' working with Broughton.
