Wenger's proud FA Cup record under threat
Arsenal's proud FA Cup record under manager Arsene Wenger will be under threat when it travels to second-tier side Leeds for a third-round replay on Wednesday.
Wenger hasn't lost at this stage of the competition since taking charge of the Gunners in 1996 but his team was held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds at Emirates Stadium on Jan. 8, with Arsenal rescued by a last-minute penalty by Cesc Fabregas.
With the London club still targeting trophies on four fronts and with its schedule becoming increasingly congested, Wenger is likely to play a weakened side at Elland Road, handing Leeds a great chance to cause an upset.
"I believe we have the quality no matter what I do on Wednesday to qualify - it's just how much we are able to focus on the competition," Wenger said.
"The timing is not the best, but it is down to us because we could have beaten Leeds at home. We didn't manage to do that, but now there's no reason why we should give up. It is important we go there with a positive attitude."
Arsenal is third in the Premier League, two points behind joint leaders Manchester United and Manchester City, after beating West Ham 3-0 away on Saturday. Wenger's side is also in the semifinals of the League Cup and the last 16 of the Champions League, where it will meet Barcelona.
Robin van Persie and Fabregas are among the players likely to be rested by the visitors.
Leeds, which is fifth in the League Championship, is the joint top scorer in England's four divisions with 50 goals from 27 matches. It kept up its free-scoring form by thrashing Scunthorpe 4-0 on Saturday.
The three other third-round replays take place on Tuesday, with Manchester City hosting Leicester in a match that will see Sven-Goran Eriksson make his return to Eastlands.
The former England manager was in charge of City for the 2007-08 season before being fired by then-owner Thaksin Shinawatra, despite the Swedish coach meeting his target of a top-10 finish that campaign.
Leicester, which is midtable in the League Championship, held City to a 2-2 draw last week and is improving under Eriksson following a slow start to the season.
Like Arsenal, City could also have done without a replay as it is still involved in the Premier League title race and the Europa League knockout stages.
Manager Roberto Mancini is also expected to rotate his team, with new signing Edin Dzeko - who made his debut in Saturday's 4-3 win over Wolverhampton in the Premier League - ineligible because his move from Wolfsburg was completed after the deadline to play in the first match on Jan. 9.
City is without a major trophy since 1976, when it beat Newcastle to win the League Cup, but Mancini is confident the drought will end this season.
"After so many years, the fans deserve success. I believe they will have something to celebrate before too long," the Italian coach said.
Midtable Premier League side Stoke visits Cardiff, which is third in the second tier, and Wolves host Doncaster.
