Veh blames his Wolves defenders

Armin Veh pinned the blame for Wolfsburg's poor season so far on his defenders as his side conceded three more goals to lose to Stuttgart.

Only bottom-placed Hertha Berlin have conceded more than the defending champions so far this season and Veh has had enough of the "amateurish" defending that has practically ruined their chances of defending their Bundesliga crown.

Wolfsburg now trail league leaders Leverkusen by 14 points and can wave goodbye to any lingering hopes they had of glory.

"To concede the kind of goals we are conceding is amateurish," Veh told Sky television.

"But that has been happening to us all season long."

Not only the defenders let the side down yesterday. Striker Grafite missed two excellent chances to level while the game was finely poised at 2-1 and Edin Dzeko also came close as Wolfsburg tore Stuttgart apart before being hit by a sucker punch with Timo Gebhardt's winner.

"We really should have equalised with the three absolutely gilt-edged chances that we created," moaned Veh.

Stuttgart were all smiles, on the other hand, as they moved clear of the relegation zone with a priceless victory.

"These three points were incredibly important," recognised their coach Christian Gross before pleading for caution.

"We have got to remain realistic about our performance. We still have a lot to do and we have not achieved anything yet.

"There were a lot of positives, but still a lot of work."
