Vasco ends contract with coach Marcelo Oliveira
Brazilian club Vasco da Gama says it has ended its contract with coach Marcelo Oliveira in mutual agreement after the team's sixth consecutive league loss.
Oliveira had a contract until the end of 2013 but stayed less than two months as head of the four-time national champion.
Monday's announcement came a day after Vasco lost 3-0 at home to Sport, which is trying to avoid relegation.
Oliveira coached Vasco in 10 matches, earning two wins, two draws and six losses.
Vasco finished runner-up last year but is seventh in the 20-team standings with 50 points from 34 matches. It was fighting for a spot in next year's Copa Libertadores until its recent struggles began.
Brazilian media reported that Oliveira has already started negotiations to join Cruzeiro at the end of the year.
