Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has returned to training for the first time since his wife suffered a brain hemorrhage last month.
The Dutch international took part in Man United's four-hour practice session and gym workout Monday, one day after the Premier League team flew into Doha for a four-day training camp.
Van der Sar has been on compassionate leave since wife Annemarie van Kesteren was admitted to a hospital in Amsterdam on Dec. 23. Van Kesteren has reportedly escaped suffering any permanent damage.
Van der Sar had also been recently troubled by a knee injury, last playing in United's 3-0 win over Everton on Nov. 21.
