United smiling after 'kick in teeth'
United won 3-0 at Aldershot as Dimitar Berbatov and Owen gave them a healthy lead as they looked to regroup following the 6-1 defeat by neighbours Manchester City. Their League Two hosts had chances of their own, but it was ultimately fruitless as United added a third through Antonio Valencia early in the second half. Asked if there was added pressure following Sunday's result - despite tonight's side featuring a different set of players - Owen told Sky Sports 2: "I suppose so. We were a little bit under pressure with the result at the weekend. "Although no-one here started at the weekend you still have Manchester United's reputation to look after. So whatever side was put out we wanted to bounce back and thankfully we got the win. "As you can imagine the laughs and jokes have quietened down a little bit (since Sunday). "Sometimes you need a kick in the teeth to get going and it was a big kick in the teeth, as everybody knows, and we were eager to bounce back." Shots boss Dean Holdsworth enjoyed the occasion if not the result. "I'm pleased with my team's effort," he told Sky Sports 2. "I think they worked extremely, extremely hard and I'm proud of their effort. There is a lot we can learn from good sides and I'll give every credit to Manchester United for turning up and playing the football they did. "We got two or three lessons to (work on) to get better out there." Opposite number Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Aldershot fought really hard and can take a lot of credit, they never stopped running and pressing. "We obviously showed our quality at times and could have scored a few more towards the end when they were tired. "We're satisfied. In cup ties the important thing is winning the game and we're in the next round now."
