UEFA has condemned ''isolated incidents'' of hooligan violence in Warsaw, blaming it on a ''tiny percentage of troublemakers'' at the European Championship.
Police used water cannons, tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse fights and repel attacks by Polish men against officers before Poland played Russia on Tuesday. At least 24 people were injured and 184 more were detained.
UEFA says ''groups of known'' hooligans attacked fans ''irrespective of the team they were supporting.''
Polish authorities deployed 5,600 officers in Warsaw, including anti-riot squads inside the stadium before the match ended.
UEFA says it wants to achieve ''low-profile'' policing, adding that Euro 2012 has been ''overwhelmingly peaceful and festive.''
