Universidad Catolica of Chile reached the quarterfinals of the Copa Sudamericana despite a 3-1 loss to Atletico Goianiense on Wednesday, advancing on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw in the home and away series.

Michael Rios scored the goal that sent the Chileans through in the 42nd minute at the Serra Dourada Stadium.

Atletico, last place and virtually relegated in the Brazilian league, scored with Joilson in the 14th, Rene in the 36th and goalkeeper Marcio in the 50th. The goalkeeper converted a penalty kick for the Brazilian team's last goal.

Atletico, in its first international competition, controlled possession and had most of the scoring chances throughout the match. It had a 63rd-minute goal disallowed because of offsides.
