Barnsley have completed the signing of John Rooney, who was a free agent following his return from America.
The 21-year-old midfielder, brother of England striker Wayne, has signed a deal until the end of the season, subject to confirmation from the Football League.
Tykes manager Keith Hill had hoped to complete the deal last week, but the move was delayed due to paperwork.
Rooney started out as a trainee at Everton and following his release from Goodison Park joined Macclesfield in 2008.
He then signed for major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls and played more recently for Orlando City in the third tier of American football.
