Trabzonspor salvages 1-1 draw against Lille
Gustavo Colman's late penalty secured Trabzonspor a 1-1 draw against Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The French champions opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Senegalese forward Moussa Sow beat the goalkeeper from an acute angle on the right side of the box after an outstanding throughball from Belgian winger Eden Hazard.
But Argentine midfielder Colman stepped up to score a 75th-minute penalty to give his side a draw in Trabzonspor's first ever home game in the Champions League group stage.
The draw left Trabzonspor - which surprisingly won at Inter Milan in its first match - at the top of Group B with four points after two games. Lille has drawn both its games so far.
''We lost two points tonight,'' Lille coach Rudi Garcia said. ''We had several chances to make it 2-0 but we did not use them. It's really a pity because it was probably a key game tonight.''
The home side struggled in the first half and the only real chance for the Turkish team came when Ivory Coast midfielder Didier Zokora shot well off the target.
Lille could have headed in at halftime with a 2-0 lead but Sow was just unable to get on the end of another dangerous ball by Hazard in the 33rd.
Efforts by Serkan Balci and Gustavo Colman boosted the home fans in the early minutes of the second half but Lille was quick to respond.
Sow beat his marker before shooting just wide in the 53rd and summer signing Joe Cole was denied from close range by goalkeeper Tolga Zengin's brilliant save.
Florent Balmont clipped the post with a header from a corner in the 62nd and Lille's profligacy was punished by the hosts in the 75th when Mathieu Debuchy handled the ball from Adrian Mierzejewski's cross.
''The result is not too bad,'' Trabzonspor coach Senol Gunes said. ''One point is not a loss for us.''
