Trabzonspor, CSKA draw 0-0 in Champions League
Trabzonspor and CSKA Moscow remain in the hunt to advance to the knockout stage of the Champions League after drawing 0-0 in Group B on Wednesday.
CSKA held on to secure a point after striker Seydou Doumbia was sent off in the 74th minute after he grabbed fellow Ivorian Didier Zokora.
''A draw was a fair result. Both sides had good chances,'' CSKA coach Leonid Slutsky said. ''After we were one man down they found chances but we also missed clear opportunities. Time will show whether this result is an advantage for us.''
Both sides missed numerous chances, including an injury-time header by Trabzonspor defender Giray Kacar that hit the post. While CSKA midfielder Alan Dzagoev struck a long-range shot that was tipped away by goalkeeper Tolga Zengin.
''We tried hard but were not effective enough to win at this level.'' Trabzonspor coach Senol Gunes said. ''We could not realize our desire to win after they were one man down. They were calmer and stronger. They have the advantage now but the competition is still wide open.''
CSKA Moscow and Trabzonspor both have five points, four back from leader Inter, which won 2-1 at home against Lille.
CSKA went close to scoring in the second minute through Doumbia, but his shot toward an empty net was scrambled away by fullback Giray Kacar.
In the 31st minute, Trabzonspor's Burak Yilmaz effort went just wide of the post. He produced a header in the 42nd that went over the bar following a corner.
The key moment of the first half came when Trabzonspor goalkeeper Tolga Zengin parried Doumbia's hesitant effort in the 43rd.
Doumbia was then sent off but Trabzonspor only went close in the 86th, when Yilmaz's first-time shot went right into the arms of Gabulov.
