Tottenham's Son Excited to Play Club Football Again
Son Heung-Min has gotten his second season with Tottenham off to a great start.
The South Korean international netted his first Premier League brace which helped Tottenham earn a 4-0 win over Stoke City yesterday.
After a difficult season last year for Son, in which he wasn’t able to establish himself as a starter, the 24-year-old has decided to make amends and get his Spurs career on track.
Making 40 appearances, scoring eight goals and notching five assists in all competitions are solid numbers in Son’s debut season, but to him, he could have done much better.
With a brace and an assist against Stoke City Son Heung-Min is proud of the team’s overall performance — not just his.
“It’s not just me, I think we all had a great afternoon,” Son said (via Spurs’ official site).
“It’s a very difficult game away at Stoke, we won 4-0 and we had unbelievable support.”
“I think we deserved to win and I’m very happy – it was my first game this season and I was very excited to play again in the Premier League.”
“Stoke, in the first 10 minutes, did well but after more and more time we were doing very well. I think we were very aggressive and I think everyone could see we really wanted this win.”
Tottenham were indeed aggressive and showed that they can be dangerous on the counterattack. Spurs’ first three goals came directly on a counter after they reclaimed possession.
Harry Kane’s goal would come off of a corner kick, though not immediately.
Once Spurs’ notched their first goal just before half-time, they made sure to tack on some more to effectively put the game out of reach once the match resumed.
Helping them secure the win of course would be Son Heung-Min who scored half of Spurs’ goals, but it was Christian Eriksen’s return to form that played a massive role.
“For both my goals, Christian’s passes were unbelievable and I just had to touch the ball,” Son said.
“It’s good memories. For the first one, Chris had the ball, he looked into the middle, I just ran, we made good eye contact, then he produced a great pass and my left foot just touched the ball and it was a great finish.”
Both goals would be of the one-timer variety where Son didn’t need to take a touch to set himself up, the passes themselves were on target.
Eriksen and Son were integral in a big win that sees Spurs remain unbeaten in their opening four matches of the 2016-17 Premier League season.
As for witnessing a historic milestone on Harry Kane’s 50th league goal for Tottenham, Son Heung-Min was proud of his teammate.
“Congratulations to him!” Son added.
“It’s not easy to score 50 league goals for one club and I’m very happy to give him the assist for the 50th goal!”
