Spurs followed up their agonising defeat to Manchester City with two poor performances against Wolves and Watford, but they were back to their best on Tuesday night.
The Londoners romped to victory thanks to a Gareth Bale double and Luka Modric's first-half strike to put Redknapp's team just five points short of the top of the table.
For Redknapp, the win brought a smile to his face after he spent the majority of the last nine days contesting two charges of tax evasion at Southwark Crown Court - charges he denies.
The Spurs boss had his name sung throughout the game by the home support and he was delighted to see his team put on a stylish display on his first home game since the trial began.
The Spurs boss, who even performed an impromptu jig on the touchline after his team's second and third goals, said: "I've been sitting down all week. I kept dancing around like a two-year-old!
"It was nice to get on my feet again. The fans were great - I appreciated it.
"I am happy. We're back up there again. I keep looking at the gap behind us. We're 13 points ahead of Arsenal now - it's a nice lead."
Bale put Spurs ahead when he hooked a volley past Ali Al Habsi in the 29th minute and the Londoners doubled their lead five minutes later when Modric picked up on a loose ball and turned before hammering past the Latics stopper from 20 yards.
Bale's second was a sublime finish from the edge of the area after he effortlessly gained a yard on his marker Ben Watson.
The 22-year-old was desperately unlucky not to get his first hat-trick since he smashed three past Inter Milan at the San Siro last season, being denied on three occasions by Wigan late on.
"Bale was terrific tonight. He is an amazing talent," Redknapp added.
"He's unstoppable when he's like that."
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was unhappy with a number of aspects of tonight's game.
Firstly, he was far from content with his team's performance in the first half.
"It was really disappointing," the Spaniard said.
"First half we weren't anywhere near as good as we could be. We allowed Spurs to really punish us. The performance wasn't anywhere near good enough where we should be at this stage of the season."
Martinez was also angry that the game took place on Tuesday night just hours before the transfer window shut given that one of his players, Hugo Rodallega, has been the subject of intense speculation all day.
"I don't think it was a good idea. It becomes a bit of a circus," he said.
"One of my players was in the middle of that speculation and it's not the right way to approach one of the most important games for this football club like this.
"An individual's career should be second to that of the football club.
"It's just ridiculous, it affects human beings."
Martinez also lambasted referee Lee Probert for not sending off Benoit Assou-Ekotto for a late high challenge on Franco Di Santo.
"It was a red card," the Wigan manager said.
"It was high. It's another big decision and it seems it's the normal thing - big decisions against us.
"I was shocked and surprised when Lee Probert didn't show the red card because he was in a great position.
"We were very fortunate because Franco escaped the tackle with minor injury and I've seen broken legs from that."
