Toon Marveaux-less for City trip
The influential former Rennes midfielder has made a big impact at the club since turning down a move to Liverpool in favour of the North-East club in the summer. The 25-year-old had hoped to shake off a groin injury he picked up against Everton in time to travel to the Eithad Stadium but fear he could be out for at least two weeks. The news came as a blow to Toon boss Alan Pardew who could also be without Gabriel Obertan and Cheick Tiote, but it was softened by the return of Shola Ameobi to full fitness. Pardew told the Newcastle Chronicle: "Marveaux is definitely out. Shola will be involved as he's back to fitness, so that is good news for us. "We are still sweating on Cheick and Obertan."
