Tigres stays top with draw

UANL Tigres drew 1-1 against Santos Laguna to remain at the top of Mexico's first division, while Guadalajara Chivas continued their mediocre start to the season with a 1-1 tie against Puebla in the weekend's action.

America couldn't capitalize on Tigres dropping points and remain in second in the Clausura championship after seven rounds of matches, drawing 2-2 draw against Toluca on Saturday.

In other results this weekend, Atlas defeated Monterrey 2-1, Pachuca won 2-1 against Cruz Azul, Leon overcame San Luis 2-0, UNAM Pumas beat Morelia 1-0, Jaguares got a 2-0 victory against Tijuana and Queretaro drew 1-1 against Atlante.

Tigres went behind in the 2nd minute when Colombian Darwin Quintero sent a long range shot from the right wing into the top corner and out of reach of goalkeeper Enrique Palos.

Brazilian Juninho took advantage of a defensive mistake to volley in and level the scores in the 37th.

Puebla's Felix Borja gave his side the lead in the 52nd but it only lasted two minutes, when Marco Fabian scrambled the ball over the line for Chivas.

Chivas, one of Mexico's most popular clubs, has now only one victory from the seven games in the Clausura.

Toluca's Diego Novaretti headed home in the 19th, with Raul Jimenez finishing off a swift counter-attack to equalize for America in the 34th. Paraguayan Osvaldo Martinez drilled in a penalty eight minutes from the end to put America in the lead, but Gerardo Rodriguez scored in the sixth minute of second half stoppage time for Toluca.

Atlas has four consecutive victories and move into third position after a 55th-minute volley from Omar Bravo delivered the win over Monterrey. Atlas were forced to come from behind after Omar Arellano burst past the last defender and lifted a chipped shot over `keeper Miguel Pinto in the 8th, but Bolivian international Jose Luis Chavez headed in an equalizer ten minutes before halftime.

Pachuca's Christian Suarez won the game for his side when he nodded in a header in the 77th. Angel Reyna had given Pachuca the lead in the 4th, before Colombian Teofilo Gutierrez converted a penalty for Cruz Azul in the 34th.

Leon picked up its first win of the season on Saturday. Edwin Hernandez opened the scoring with a shot from 25 yards (25 meters) in the 14th, with Yovanny Arrechea getting the second in the 63rd.

Pumas' sole goal came in the 65th through defender Efrain Velarde.

Tijuana's U.S. international Edgar Castillo gave away a penalty and was sent off in the 47th, as Jaguares got their first win of the season against the reigning champion on Friday. Luis Gabriel Rey scored the penalty and added his second in the 61st.

Atlante salvaged a point when Uruguayan Joe Bizera snatched an equalizer for Atlante in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time.

Luis Landin opened the scoring in the 68th for Queretaro, which is now nine points adrift at the foot of the relegation table.
