Tigers boss under no illusions

The former Crystal Palace and Charlton boss moved into the Tigers hotseat with nine games of the season remaining and saw his new club boost their hopes of survival with a 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday. Chairman Adam Pearson used his programme notes to explain his decision to sack Dowie's predecessor Phil Brown and revealed the club's wage bill is twice that of fellow strugglers Wolves. Dowie said: "I don't think anyone needs to stress how important it is financially (to stay up). I understand the situation; it's a pressure that we're well aware of, that players have to cope with, that management have to cope with, that supporters have to cope with. Everyone in the whole city of Hull will be thinking about that. "We're focused on leaving nothing unturned and leaving no effort in our energy stores. "I want to achieve something that allows people in the city to enjoy their summer and come back expecting Premier League football. We know how tough it is but that's where we should shoot for."
