Eredivisie strugglers Vitesse Arnhem have sacked head coach Theo Bos.

The club, who lie third bottom of the table, announced in a statement on their official website the decision was made in reaction to their disappointing run of results.

Vitesse have won just twice in nine games in the league this term and were beaten 4-1 at Roda JC last weekend.

Bos, 45, took over as head coach of Vitesse in January 2009, having previously served the club as assistant coach, youth coach and a player.

Technical director Ted van Leeuwen: "We have taken this decision with pain in our hearts and are thankful for the efforts Theo has made for Vitesse.

"There was and is a great respect for Theo Bos the man and coach. Theo will always be welcome to remain with this club."

Bos added: "I'm very disappointed and regret that I have not been given time because I felt that we were on the right track. The decision was not in my hands.

"It is unfortunate that my time as head coach of Vitesse is now at an end, but it certainly does not mean the end of my career as a coach."

Assistant coach Hans van Arum and goalkeeping coach Raimond van der Gouw, the former Manchester United keeper, have been tasked with coaching the team while Vitesse search for a replacement for Bos.
