Terry ruled out of France friendly
Terry missed Chelsea's 3-0 home defeat to Sunderland on Sunday after suffering a nerve problem in training that is leading to pain in a gluteal muscle and hamstring. And after the game Ancelotti said the defender would not be fit to play at Wembley, although he hopes to have him back for next Saturday's trip to Birmingham. "Terry trained yesterday but, at the end of the training session, he had pain on his nerve in his hamstring and we had the test this morning," Ancelotti said. "He was not able to play today. I don't think he will be able to play for the national team. He is out of the squad. "I don't know if he has to report, we will wait to hear from them. "He has had control of this problem. He never missed a training session but yesterday the pain was more, so he was not able to play. "But I think he can play the next game. It is an injury, but he can control it. He has controlled it for 12 games. "He's doing good prevention, good treatment. Everything will be okay for him." England boss Fabio Capello has plenty of cover in central defence with Everton's Phil Jagielka having impressed in his recent international outings. Other injury doubts are Andy Carroll and Gabriel Agbonlahor, who both picked up injuries playing for their clubs on Saturday. Carroll will be assessed by England's medical staff on Sunday evening, with a groin injury threatening to ruin his chances of making his international debut against France. The 21-year-old Newcastle striker received his maiden call-up to Capello's squad, but his involvement could now be limited to less than a day after the injury he picked up in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Fulham. His club confirmed on their official website the player is to report for duty, where he will be looked at by the England team doctors. West Ham striker Carlton Cole has already been called up as cover for Carroll and Aston Villa's Agbonlahor, who is also struggling with a knock picked up against Manchester United. Cole joins Carroll, Agbonlahor, Cardiff's Jay Bothroyd and Tottenham's Peter Crouch as the forwards in Capello's squad, with the Italian light on options with Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney and Darren Bent all out injured. Carroll's selection was expected after a fine start to the season, but it was only possible after it was approved by Club England managing director Adrian Bevington. The Gateshead-born player is currently on bail after being charged with assault, but Capello had decided his seven goals this season indicated more than a modicum of potential. "Everybody makes mistakes when they are young," Capello said after picking his squad. "It is very important for him to be in the seniors because we have a lot of important players who can stay with him and speak with him about what happens outside the pitch. That is important. "Carroll is a really interesting player. He is good in the air, has good movement without the ball and finds space. Technically he is very good and he is a fighter." Capello witnessed Carroll, who has won many plaudits with his all-action style of play, score one of his seven goals in last Sunday's 1-0 win at Arsenal. If he is unable to call on him and Agbonlahor, he will be reliant on Crouch - who yesterday scored his first league goal since May - the uncapped Bothroyd who has scored 15 Championship goals this term - and Cole, who has one goal to his name this season.
