The stopper has started both of the Magpies' Carling Cup ties this season, netting a goal in each to help Chris Hughton's side to wins over Accrington Stanley last month and Chelsea a week ago. However, the 26-year-old has only played 14 minutes of Premier League football this term, in the late stages of Toon's 6-0 thumping of Aston Villa. Taylor's rival James Perch has come under the spotlight following his own-goal at Stoke which condemned Newcastle to a 2-1 defeat. And with first-choice right-back Danny Simpson still ruled out due to injury, Taylor is hoping for a chance to shine in Sunday's trip to Manchester City. "I'd like to think I'm doing everything that could be asked of me but it's only Chris that picks the team," Taylor told Journal Live. "I can only do what I've been doing. I'm sure it's in the back of his mind. He knows what I can do anyway. "I don't want to be one of these players who only plays cup games. But the season's only just got going. "I will be looking to try and play, it's just the way things have gone at the minute it's just not gone my way. "Danny played quite a lot of games last season and he's just coming back from injury now, which will increase the fight for places. It's in the back of my mind. He's still maybe a couple of games off yet but hopefully by then I will have had a chance and will take it."
