Talks scheduled to avoid Serie A strike
The Italian players association and Serie A officials have been summoned to a decisive negotiating session Tuesday to avoid a strike.
Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete sent letters to notify the parties Wednesday, saying that the talks will proceed until a settlement is reached or the federation will nominate a special commissioner to handle the issue.
The two parties reached an agreement last month to avoid a strike declared for Sept. 24-25, but the players' association warned that if a new contract was not settled by Nov. 30, the strike would go ahead.
Talks broke down again Monday and players are still unhappy with two items on the new proposed collective contract - one clause regarding transfers and another about out-of-contract players.
