Ten-man Sweden routed San Marino 6-0 Tuesday in European Championship 2012 qualifying.

Olof Mellberg's 34th-minute sending off made no difference to the Scandinavian team, which was 3-0 up after 26 minutes and cruised to a comfortable victory.

Mellberg was given a straight red card after launching himself into a dangerous tackle, having lost control of the ball.

Sweden was immediately on the front foot against the largely amateur outfit from the tiny republic in central Italy, with Pontus Wernbloom close to scoring in only the second.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring in the seventh minute, bringing down Kim Kallstrom's long pass with his first touch, before lashing the ball in with his second.

Sweden's second came in the 12th, when San Marino's Davide Simoncini slid Sebastian Larsson's right-wing cross into his own net.

San Marino goalkeeper Aldo Simoncini deflected the ball into his own goal, under pressure from Wernbloom, for the third in the 26th.

Substitute Andreas Granqvist headed in Sweden's fourth in the 51st.

Ibrahimovic scored his second of the game in the 77th, when he turned and drilled the ball into the corner of the net from outside the penalty area.

Marcus Berg added a sixth in injury time from close range.

Sweden has six points from it's first two qualifying matches, scoring eight goals and not conceding. It was a second heavy defeat for San Marino, which was thumped 5-0 by the Netherlands on Friday.

Sweden's next qualifier is against the Netherlands on Oct. 12, while San Marino faces Hungary on Oct. 8.
