Rodgers would like to reward long-serving defender Monk, who could miss the start of the season through injury, for helping the club win promotion to the Premier League. Swansea are thought to have offered the 32-year-old a new three-year deal to keep him at the Liberty Stadium for the rest of his career. "Garry deserves a new contract," Rodgers told the club's official website. "He is a wonderful captain - a great leader for us both on and off the field. "There's no doubt that over the next few years we will have to look after him and manage him - that's something you have to do with a lot of players who are over 30. "Garry is very professional and looks after his body really well. "He has been unfortunate with some injuries but when he plays, like in the play-off final, his contribution is very, very important. "He is a key figure for us. I want to secure him and secure things in his mind so he can go forward with the club for the next three years."
