Sunderland signs Mannone as Mignolet's replacement
Sunderland has moved quickly to replace departed goalkeeper Simon Mignolet by signing Vito Mannone from Arsenal on a two-year deal.
The 25-year-old Italian ends his eight-year spell at Arsenal, where he was largely used as a back-up and made just 15 appearances. Financial details were not disclosed.
Mignolet joined Liverpool last week for a reported fee of 9 million pounds ($13.9 million) after an impressive season at the Stadium of Light, leaving Mannone to battle with Kieren Westwood for the goalkeeper jersey at Sunderland.
Mannone is Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio's fourth signing of the week, after those of defenders Valentin Roberge and Modibo Diakite and midfielder Adilson Tavares Varela - better known as Cabral.
Sunderland finished one place above the relegation zone in the Premier League last season.
