Struggling Villarreal fires Molina as coach

Villarreal has fired coach Jose Molina soon after a 1-0 loss to Levante that left the Spanish club hovering above the relegation zone.

The 41-year-old Molina's tenure lasted just 11 games after having replaced Juan Carlos Garrido, the former Spain goalkeeper registering three victories and five losses. Villarreal had taken only one of a possible 15 points since registering back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

Villarreal did not say on Sunday who would replace Molina with the team playing Spanish leader Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Villarreal is three points above Racing Santander, which can close the gap with a victory Monday against Espanyol.
