Former Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has appeared in court on tax evasion charges.

Storrie attended a hearing Wednesday at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court, where he was charged with evading tax in connection with the termination of midfielder Eyal Berkovic's contract.

Storrie is accused of making an offshore payment where no tax was declared or paid.

The judge ordered the case sent to Southwark Crown Court for a hearing in September.

Storrie was granted unconditional bail.

Storrie resigned as Portsmouth chief executive in April after becoming the target for fans' anger over the club's financial problems. Portsmouth traded almost all its top players to pay off huge debts and was relegated from the Premier League.
