Stoke credited with Cole interest

Pulis has attempted to lure Cole to Stoke on a number of occassions over the past couple of seasons but West Ham have, until now at least, always resisted the Potters' approaches. However, the Hammers are looking to trim their squad following their relegation from the Premier League and, as one of the top earners at Upton Park, Cole is expected to move on this summer. West Ham are said to value the England international at close to £9million but the East Londoners are unlikely to receive a fee that high and, according to the Mail on Sunday, Pulis is ready to start the bidding at £3.5million. Cole scored just five goals in the Premier League last season but the 27-year-old reached double figures in each of the two previous campaigns with a strike ratio of better than one in three. Pulis is looking for a forward with that sort of record having seemingly opted against offering John Carew a permanent contract at the Britannia Stadium. Pulis is also likely to make a fresh approach for Birmingham's Cameron Jerome after failing with a move in January. The 23-year-old managed only three goals in the Premier League as Blues were relegated but scored 11 the season before and, like Cole, could be available at a cut-price.
