Tottenham is waiting for Rafael van der Vaart's move from Real Madrid to be sanctioned by the Premier League after the deal was completed as the transfer window was closing until January.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says he was only alerted to the Netherlands international's availability two hours before the 1700 GMT transfer deadline on Tuesday.
Redknapp says Van der Vaart had been set to join Bayern Munich on Monday for 18 million pounds ($28 million), but that deal collapsed and he was made available for 8 million pounds.
Redknapp says that ''the fee has come crashing down because the deadline is so close.''
