Sparta Rotterdam coach Frans Adelaar has been fined 1,000 euros,
half of which is suspended, after being found guilty of assault.
The 49-year-old attacked the manageress of a Greek restaurant
in Nieuwegein after she had a row with his daughter, who was
working in the establishment.
The victim said Adelaar, a regular customer in the restaurant
for some 15 years, grabbed her by the throat and kicked her in the
stomach, claims supported by her husband.
Adelaar told an earlier hearing that he may have accidentally
kicked the woman, but magistrate Jaap Krol ruled: "You do not kick
accidentally. Someone who has spent his whole life kicking a ball
should know that."
