Defending champion Spain kicks off its 2012 European Championship qualifying campaign at Liechtenstein on Sept. 3 while Scotland is at Lithuania in its Group I opening match.

The Czech Republic opens against Lithuania at home Sept. 7 before hosting Scotland Oct. 8. Spain will face Lithuania in its second match at home that day before traveling to Scotland four days later and hosting the Czechs on March 25, 2011.

The schedule was announced Friday by the Czech football federation after a meeting of the teams' representatives in Madrid.

Spain, the top-ranked team and favorite, is the group's only team to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

Only the group winner qualifies automatically for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
