SUNDERLAND, England (AP) Dusan Tadic converted a penalty in the 69th minute to give Southampton a 1-0 win over struggling Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday and extend the team's unbeaten run to eight games.
Tadic slotted in his spot kick after Yann M'Vila had tripped Ryan Bertrand at the Stadium of Light to break the deadlock. Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon had kept the visitors at bay until then with a string of saves, while the hosts struggled to create chances throughout.
Sunderland has now lost three of its four games under new manager Sam Allardyce and remains mired in the relegation zone with just six points from 12 games.
Southampton remained within four points of the Champions League places.
