South Africa underperformed, says former coach

South Africa football great Jomo Sono says the national team failed to justify the money pumped into the team with its first-round exit from the first World Cup to be held in Africa.
The former Bafana Bafana coach says the host nation's early departure ``can affect the competition.''
Sono added that the tournament has so far been disappointing for Africa.
Ghana looks set to be the continent's only team to advance past the group stage.

Sono said Friday that only Ghana and Algeria played as a team. He added that African nations need to learn that playing as a ``collective is more important than relying on the individuals.''
